A Message from Two BargeMates

f.gif (1606 bytes)rom the decks of barges and the pilothouses of boats, we have seen the Mississippi River and her tributaries. We have seen the riverscapes of America's heartland. Met the people along the banks. Sailed in their boats. Danced to their music. Shared in their local foods. Listened to their stories. Learned of their history.

We have found that exploring the regions along our rivers broadens and deepens our love and appreciation for America. Now we would like to share our experiences with you. Close up and real, on the type of vessel that opened America's heartland to colonization.

Sharing what we've learned about America is the philosophy behind RiverBarge Excursion Lines, Inc. We founded this company so you can experience what we've known about for years. The richness of our country's history. The pastoral scenery from a river view. The landmarks along the way. The friendliness and warmth of the local people. The aromas and tastes of their foods. The distinctive sounds and moods of their music. And most of all, their stories-wonderful personal accounts that instantly tell you who they are and where they're from.

To share these once-in-a-lifetime experiences, we began by building the R/B River Explorer, America's only floating hotel barge. Designed as your hotel and touring vessel, she's built on two barges aptly named for the Mississippi River explorers LaSalle and DeSoto. There's nothing like her in America. Propelled along by the M/V Miss Nari, a powerful "towboat" with quite a history of her own, the R/B River Explorer is spacious yet easily maneuvered with a shallow draft for access to both regular and remote landings. She also offers every modern comfort to make your vacation relaxing and pleasant.

RiverBarge Excursion offers unique programs created with a lot of help and advice from old friends along our routes. Carefully planned and researched, these are excursions that invite you to "come along" with the locals and discover what's fun, interesting and significant about a region, and the part it has played in America's story. We know you'll like the scheduled shore activities, but we'll also make time for taking advantage of special events, or simply just for a little "lagniappe" (that's Creole for "a little something extra").

From the moment you step aboard, we think you'll be pleased with our relaxed approach to a unique vacation and the casual atmosphere of the R/B River Explorer, including the flexibility of making your own choices about things like when, where or with whom you'd like to share your meals; whether to take a tour on shore or stay aboard; or whether to enjoy an evening show in "The Sprague" or just watch a movie in your stateroom.

Best of all, we think you'll appreciate our "all-inclusive" pricing policy which covers all of your accommodations, all meals, all soft drinks, juice, coffee and tea, snack, all schedule shore activities, onboard entertainment, port charges, taxes and gratuities - No tipping allowed! Your BargeMaster is your host throughout each RiverBarge Excursion. Along with our BargeMate crew, they will make certain that the time you spend with us is not only comfortable, but also memorable.

So, get prepared to make new friends, and come see this great land of ours from the very different perspective of a RiverBarge Excursion!

Sincerely,
The RiverBarge Family
